Scuttling of the HMAS Adelaide, Terrigal 2010
The HMAS ADELAIDE is to be scuttled off the Central Coast to create an artificial dive wreck site 1.8km from Terrigal shoreline.
The event was to be seen from both North Avoca and Avoca Beaches on 27 March 2010 between 8am and 12 noon. However, a court injunction has delayed this. New date to be advised when available.
The Central Coast is already one of the world’s great dive spots, and this will be a tremendous addition to the Central Coast’s attractions.
The first military dive site in NSW and one of six in Australia.
The HMAS Adelaide worked in area air defence and anti-submarine warfare. Built in the USA and launched in 1980 the first of six Adelaide class frigates in the Australian Navy.
The ship is 138.1 metres long, with a beam of 14.3 metres and displacement of 4100 tonnes.
